Red & Black Koi 1

The story

The Seiko 7625 is a simple, sporty movement, a popular workhorse movement (or a movement that runs dilligently through thick and thin) available around the middle of the 20th century, just before the Quartz Crisis flipped the industry upside down.

This Seiko 7625-8293 from 1968 needed a few parts replacing and someone at some point had given it a striking red seconds hand.

It was an option to replace this red hand with something more in line with the original (if not a contemporary replacement) however, another option, and the one chosen, was to treat the addition as part of the story of the watch's life.

In order to celebrate the addition of color, the design had to include red. Red and black was a perfect fit for some koi fish circling the dial, representing the balance of life's dualities..
