The story

Advan is a sub-brand of Seiko that was around in the 1970s, usually offering funky dials, interesting case shapes and faceted crystals.

This watch was purchased because of the elaborate stylings, it's faceted crystal, serpentine angular case and stylish dial. However it proved that securing a replacement bracelet for the case would be impossible as the correct bracelet is asymmetrical. Further the glossy blue dial had been damaged in multiple places leaving white patches and some cracking both in the upper right and lower left areas, which made coming up with a design that would cover these blemishes but not completely obscure the dial's character, somewhat challenging

Inspired by Jules Verne, the idea of a vintage deep sea diver battling a giant squid was a great fit for the dial color. The unusual case shape was still a challenge though as it dominated the appearance of the watch but without fitting the theme. Continuing the idea of vintage diving, the idea was to plate the case in copper, matching vintage diving helmets. Finally this was placed on a vintage green bund strap to complete the feeling of diving equipment.
